In the time period of the utopian movements, there was a feeling of change throughout the United States. America was undergoing changes in education, laws regarding alcohol, and women's rights. People wanted to change America. The utopian and reforms were just another way of trying to change America. These utopian societies and reforms brought about new ideas and further diversified America. I believe that any new idea makes America more of who we are. America is a nation of new ideas.

I think the people of this time period were trying to find a way to have a perfect society were they could be happy. There were so many different changes that American society was experiencing, like Cathy said, and the people were trying to make the country even better. Many things started in these societies like free libraries and schools lasted into this age, and turned out to be very beneficial. New ideas were formed during this time, and some proved very positive.

I think that there were many movements in this time because of all the new life that was pouring into the country. There were many different religions and cultures and i think that a lot of them have just blended and come together and began a desire to have the perfect ideal society among themselves. This was the new utopian movements that i think helped to blend our cultures. They gave us differnet ideas and new feelings that will help pour through the new counttry and form new thoughts, ideas, and mixed cultures.

In this time period of American history many changes were being made to the U.S. Such as school reform, changes in work, and womens right. With no one holding them back people decided to make their own socieies called utopias. Utopian societys were perfect, uniform societies each with different sets of laws and regulations. These movements were made because the people wanted change and no one was stopping them from settling west. They contributed to the American culture because it brought new law ideas and made America a more diverse country as everyone else has said. It brought change and expressed the ideas of freedom to the American Culture.

Like Cathy said that in this time period there was a feeling or want for change surging throughout the United States. The people of America was looking for a way to make America the ideal society, so by passing reforms they made a step toward bettering the country. The changes put on education, alcohol, and women's rights helped society grow into something better. Like Veronica pointed out the free libraries and schools proved to be beneficial and something that has lasted. This time period helped to change the U.S. into what our system is like today.

At this time America was undergoing some of the most influential changes of the time, Womens rights activists had begun to pop up, the idea of prohibition was beginning to circulate and education was taking a turn for the better. Conditions for the entire country were improving, everywhere from the home and family to prisons and asylums. In this pursuit of happiness and hopeful equality, people began to think what would it be like if we created our own perfect societies? That is where utopia began. Every civilization strives to be better and that is what the early american citizens wanted. Alot of this led to better conditions in todays time, because without the reforms and the ideas of a better future, there would be no foundation for people like martin luther or gandhi in later years.

America had so many reforms because we wanted things to change. Like with drinking, So many Americans were always drunk and most couldnt hold down a steady job. So we tried to make them drink less, as a result many did start to drink less. And the utopian societies wanted everything to be perfect. They wanted all the people to have certain traits.
All these did change America. Many people drank less, we had new laws to help people to go to school and get a better education.
I agree with Cathy in saying that the utopian societies diversified America.

it was just a time in history where changes were taking place. people were experimenting tryiing to find a new way to do things for the better. from education to health. people with common goals were just trying to live together and creat a perfect life. when it fell apart ideas were taken from them and put in a diffrent area. the nations trail and error and learning new things helped build our contry to what it is now. our nation builds on its self and sometime hopfully learns from it mistakes theses utopias helped build our contry

So many utopias and reform movements were started in America, I think, because the United States was such a diverse country. The utopias contributed to the women's rights, prohibition, and abolitionist movements with their ideas of equality and sobriety. They also added quite a few odd topics for students to learn about in school.

Casey:)
America produced many reforms and Utopian movements throughout its history. America during this time period, like many of said, was undergoing a change in the old ideas, feelings, and becoming more knowledgeable about the world around them. Many new emigrants were pouring into the states bringing with them new cultures and ideas. New philosophers came up with new ideas about society, and new religions. People were constantly wanting to change the America, and try to make it better in their eyes. Many changes were thus made in education, law, and prohibition, and womens rights. Yet without these contributions the United States would be vastly different, and many other reforms along the way, may never have occurred, such as the African Americans suffrage led by Martin Luther King Jr or Ghandi's.

America attracted different kinds of people from different countries. And everyone has their own ideals and beliefs, whether it be "free love" or "peace". After awhile i think people eventually got tired of the same ole same ole and wanted change. Women's rights, the industrial revolution, ideas on education, and religious movements (mormons) were just a few of the things that changed because of the intense differences between Americans. All of these changes have made America what it is today. Women have rights, everyone receives an education regardless of their background, and there are still many types of religious practices today.

I think that America produced so many reform and utopian movements because so much change was occuring in the U.S. Women's rights, alcohol laws, and education and schooling was all changing during this time. Reforms and utopian movements were used to help with the changes that were being made and that people still wanted to happen in America. Because the U.S. was so diverse with it's people and those people's beliefs these movements helped to make more changes for the better of the country.

Well think about it, how would like to live in an environment where if you make one mistake or you think something different your probably going to be executed. I sure wouldn't. If youwere a woman it was even worse, we had no rights! Thank God for the women who fought for our rights, this has contributed to our society deeply, now we have more of an equality between men and women. If it wasnt for some reforms we wouldn't have the education that we have today. Public Schools came about in this time period and were supported by taxes, and they still are today.

I think that a lot of the utopian movements was a result of change going on in the US. They wanted to change america and make it perfect. They wanted our country to withstand everything and for that it had to be perfect. And today everyone strives to be perfect which makes them better people.

I think it is because they really liked cheese in America. Abraham Lincoln puts it best in his 1823 address to the UN, "An insufficient amount of cheese to quell the natural, unalienable desire for cheese will lead to revolution, reform, and revival. No other desire is comparable. Not war. Not wealth. Not sex. Not tobacco. Not marijuana. Nothing."
