I think the most defining moment for our country in the 21st Century would have to be the September 11th attacks. It has made us who we are today. That was the moment our country finally realized that we aren't invincible and things can happen. We came together as a country and were there for one another. From that day on, our country hasn't been the same. We take far more security measures now, so that the safety of the people is ensured!

The Defining moment I think of during the 21st is obviously going to be 9/11. The thin veneer of society's security measures cracked and you had people leaping from the 50th floor. Smoke went up, foors came down, Planes spiralled toward our pentagon/white house/trade centers. Our entire government could've fallen that day had it not been for the other 3 planes failing. It's scary that things could fall that easily, and it has put the entire country on high alert since then. Airports are outrageous, security has tightened down, travelling is more difficult, but we are safer, and we feel safer, and that is all that matters.

I believe one of the most defining moments for America in the 21st century was the 2008 election of the first African American President, Barrack Obama. His election signigfied a race milestone, his election was an extreme achievement. It showed that a majority of Americans had overcome racial discrimination and accepted everyone as equal. This showed that America was moving foward and putting small things such as skin color in the past. Also 9/11 was a extreme moment for the 21st century, it took away Americas security and brought us into a war on terror that still isn't over.

I deffiantly would say that the most defining thing in the twenty first century would be september 11th. It not only lead our country into a bigger form of security but instilled a new pride into the lives of the people effective and all those living in America. It can be said that it helped us to show more American pride in our country and those who fight for us everu day. With terrriosm a bigger problem our country established better defense systems and we were stricter in that of allowing people into our country. It allowed us to be opened up to the worth of our people, government, society and even our federal agencies that protect us every day. We are becouse of september 11th a more prideful nation that respects our troops overseas as well as our security

I honestly don't believe that there is one moment in the 21st century in America, that can truly define us, just like there isn't one moment that defines the 20th century. I believe there have been several events that have defined the United States. One being the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center and the Twin Towers. This date was the first time that terroist had openly attacked on United States soil, and heavy casualties occurred. This day marked a day of new programs placed in order to help protect American lives. The department of homeland security was established, and American people began to feel again a sence of national pride. I believe that another defining moment in American 21st century history would be the 2008 presidential election. For the first time in American history, the Democratic Party ran for office a woman and African American. Obma winning office proved how far the United States had overcome racial discrimination, in order to elect a black president. It signified that a new era in history. I feel also that this recession that we are in will in the future prove to be a defining moment, as well as the Health Reform bill newly passed.

I think that the 9/11 attacks were the defining moment of the twenty-first century. Nearly everything that has happened in the twenty-first century can be linked back to 9/11, maybe because there has only been one president for most of it, but it still can be linked. Our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were spawned from the fear that America could be attacked again. The Patriot Act, airline security, government office security are all from the fear that terrorists are out there trying to blow up Americans all the time. The newest and one of the most expensive departments was formed because of the attacks. Security and the wars have been a major issue in most political campaigns. More recently the presidential election was focused on the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, Obama promising to have troops pulling out in 6 months(wait, he said a year, right?, oh wait, it was 16 months, or was it three...) and McCain was more for staying there until the job was done. Obama won, which is a partial indicator of how the people feel about the post-9/11 era, more are getting away from the fear of an attack.

The 21st century has been full of surprises and it's only 10 years in. Did you know that Facebook was only launched in 2004? Crazy right? We've come so far, but I would not say that the launching of Facebook is the defining moment for America. America was changed with the bombing of the Trade Centers on 9/11 and Obama has made history. I want to find a more defining moment, but the time directly after the September 11th attacks defined who we are as a nation. After the attacks, we turned back to relying on God and our patriotism. Everywhere you looked flags were flying and churches were praying. This time showed the world how we reacted to tradegy. The attacks brought Americans closer to each other (even if we haven't remained that way).
The security also changed greatly that day. It is now a huge hassel to get into the country (even if you are a returning citizen). Plane passengers are checked much closer for possible threats, even to the extent of multiple checks at times.

I think one of the defining moments in the 21st century for America was when Hurricane Katrina hit the southern gulf region of the US on August 28, 2005. There was extensive damage done to Louisiana and Mississippi, especially New Orleans, LA. Because of a break in the levee system massive flooding occurred and over 180,000 homes were under water. I think that this natural disaster showed that it was time to help our own country for once in history. We're always going to help other countries in need, but this was something that hit America and everyone united with one another by pitching in to help the victims of this disaster. At least 1,836 people lost their lives in the actual hurricane as well as in the subsequent floods, making Hurricane Katrina the largest natural disaster in the history of the US.

i cant really think of one defining moment for america. so much has happened that has had a great impact on us. for example, our great jump in technology. The ipod was created and is still a great phenomena because we keep trying to improve it. Even our search on ways to make cars more fuel efficient was a defining moment. Then there are the moments that werent so great that changed the way we think and feel. There was the 9/11 attacks which led the the War on Terror. Many people lost family to the 9/11 attacks and the war. When both of those things happened were became more cautious and more suspicious. Even though have only talked about a few things that have been defining moments for America, there are so many more.

What really defines the 21st century? There are so many things that have happened just in the past ten years that there has not been just one. I believe that 9/ll affected us all and made us realize that we have to always watch because things can happen in an instant. But on top of that we've suffered through Katrina and the effects of it on the towns that were completely destroyed. I think another huge event was the election of Obama because no one ever believed a balck president would ever come about. We have so mnay things going on in the world and another thing launched is all the green projects, people are trying to conserve energy and products due to the information they are being provided on how importatn it is.

I dont think the is only one defining moment in the 21st century there have been many more. September 11 was one major defining moment it changed everyting. Our national security increased and began the war on terror. Now more preventive measures are being taken when bringing people into our country, like the 3oz. liquid restrictions on airplaines. Technology is also a big advancement that has defined america. Things such as the ipod, iphone, facebook, dsl, and many others have changed the way the American people live. The number of text messages has had a massive increace along with emails, does anyone write a letter anymore? So really ther isnt just one of these moments there are many that have been defining moments for America.

I think the defining moments of the 21st century were all of the disasters we've had and America's reation to them. There have been so many different tsunamis and tornados and hurricanes and earthquakes, and every time our country has sent immediate aide. It also showed how technologically advanced we are in this century. We as a country have become more aware of other countries in need and we have done all we can to help out. Thanks to the internet and other new technologies we were able to react immediatley and efficiently, and that is very defining for our country.

i believe the allowance of stem cell resaerch in the 21 century has majorly affected the America. weather your for against it has changed the activity role citizens have in goverment. the protest for either side both has strong points. on one had the fetal stem cell is a baby, but on the other hand the cells can cure many things. since the allowance of the research doctoers are making leaps and bounds to come close to finding a cures. there is already a treatment to have a bone marrow transplant for paitions with leukemia, and treatments are being made for spinal cord injurys other cancers, among oher imparments and conditions. we may not see it now but this reasurch will change the way people get treatment. things that were once death consitered death sentances might be seen as a non serious thing. so stem scell reshaerch is the most defining moment in Americas short 21 century.
