9/11 - due April 18

How successful was America in punishing the attackers of 9/11? Was America's "war on terror" a success or failure? Why or why not.

Epic Fail. A war is a war, and never a success. How could anyone think that sending innocent troops to fight 'terror' can be justified? Terror isn't even an enemy, its an emotion, you cant fight it. We got bombed, we did some bombing back, we've made our point, took out Sadaam;LETS LEAVE. Osama is in some hole somewhere and hasn't bothered anyone in years that I know of. Let him be a caveman, and bring our troops home!!!

I would have to say its a failure. America was not, at all, successful in punishing the attackers. We still don't really have a clear idea as to who it really was the attacked us. We assumed it was the Taliban. We are still looking for the "leader" of the Taliban. And the main reason that it's called "The War on Terror" is because it wasn't a true war at all. A war is attacking another country, this is an attack on terror. Which is to broad of a subject to really be considered a war. The troops fighting are doing all they can to try and win a losing battle.

We have tried to locate the specific attackers but have been unsuccessful in determining who was the complete mastermind and finding that person.
There have been some high points in this war, but I agree that this war is very broad. Who exactly are we fighting? This is a very abstract war therefore it is hard to say who is winning. I personally don't feel that there was a solid reason to attack in the beginning, but now that we are there I can see the point. We are trying to make the lives of the citizens better, and in some aspects we are succeeding. The question is what will happen when we completely pull out, and is it even feasible for us to pull out? In this case I do not envy the president's job.

Like everyone else has already said, I believe that the United States was unsuccessful in punishing the attackers of 9/11.
The attackers had already succeeded in their mission, and in the process killed thousands of Americans. Yet, once we declared war on them, we never could find the all the ones behind the crime. We assumed that it was the Talibon but have never really discovered the leader or leaders behind it. America's "war on terror", as Mandy said has been an epic fail. I don't believe that you can wage a war on terriorism, for someone will always grow to hate, and want to destroy the lives of others. Where one man falls in defeat another will rise to replace them. I understand that if we bring troops home, it will further create a recession because jobs will be lost to those who have replaced our soldiers, but i don't feel that their is any other reason to be over there. You can't wage a war on terror, for the numbers are to great, and it is a war in which you can not win.

I also agree with everyone else saying that the war on terror was deffinatley a failure. The attackers met their goal killing thousands of people and putting our national security on edge. when we declared this war on terror but we didnt find masterminds in 9/11 we hurt ourselves by sending our loved ones off to war therefore losing more of our soldiers, and to do what find some man who apparently is hiding in a cave somewhere? its taken us entirely too long to find this one man, who we dont even know is still alive he could have died from starvation a long time ago so when can we call it quits. I think its time to admit that this was a failure and move on, our country is tired of waiting for justice.

I think that the war on terror was a failure as well. Once we got in to Afghanistan, we had more than one thing come up. And now that we are in Iraq, there are so many things going on that we are having to fight off. I think that the United States did what they thought was best for our country at the time, which it was to go to war. You don't just let the people that shook your country get away without paying a price. But since then we have learned that maybe it isn't the best thing.

I'm going to have to set on the fence on this one. I think that we have done a lot of good in Iraq. We caught Sadaam and punished many of the attackers. I think we were successful in punishing the attackers in the simple fact that we have not had another attack yet. I think that this war can also been described as a failure in the simple fact it has taken forever for us to try to maintain peace. And we will never win a war against terror because people will always hate us.

i think that overall we were not very successful in punishing the attackers. There were many of the people invoved that were behind the scences that we as Americans didn't capture or treat with any punishment other than them saying it was bad. America's war on terror was a failure. It only destory's lives. Terriorism is something that is very thought out when it's planned and something that is very hard to fight. But i think that it is worth it to fight to keep our country safe as well as other people safe in the countries that we are trying to help. We should being doing what is overall necceaary but not overstepping our boundaries.

I think we have been quite successful in the war on terror, considering the circumstances. We went into Afghanistan and rooted out the Al-Qaeda members there, and caught quite a few cards in the deck. Then our military got diverted into Iraq to take down the threat of Saddam. While there Afghanistan was quite forgotten, and Al-Qaeda and the Taliban moved back into Afghanistan, which hindered our progress. Then the American people, of course, chimed in saying they were tired of the war, and wanted the soldiers home. This further hampered the war effort. We have punished the Al-Qaeda pretty well in my eyes.

America may have punished the terrorists who bombed the world trade center, but there's still terror out there. Every day there are more and more bombings and killings and hostage situations. the war was a success on out side, but thats it. What about the weaker countries who are taken over by terror? We are trying to help Afghanastan and Iraq become "civilized countries" but theres way more than that out there.

I think America's war on terror can be compared to the vietnam conflict. It didn't have the intended effect and it was a waste of troops. The troops there were had a low moral and were only fighting because they felt obligated to do their part for America. When we pull the troops out it will just go back to the way it used to be, just like Nam. America should have learned form the past, but instead we made the same mistake again. They should have involved the CIA or the FBI and not end over alot of troops.

I feel the war wasn't really successful but it wasnt a complete failure. We did prove the point that you do not mess with America but in the process we had to sacrfice many lives (soldiers) to bring a few to justice (taliban). And not all of the taliban members were found and punished. This war is a lot like a stale mate in chess. Neither side wins, but much was done to get to that point and you had to sacrifice at times. At times you capture a queen and sacrifice a pawn or you capture and sacrifice a pawn. (yeah its a cruddy comparison but that's how i evaluate war efforts)

I believe the war is not doing anything. We have definetly punished Sadaam but thats all. I really do think we dont need to be over in Iraq because we really arent needed. Theres no need to be putting ourselves somewhere where we dont belong. I overall believe that we were unsucessful in punishing the attackers. The war on terror was and is still a failure, because we are still there, and we are doing nothing.

where is the punishment? the men who maned the plains went down with the plains. andyone else who knew of the plans are effectivly hiding...its been 9 years and we still cant find ONE MAN!!! i have mixed views on the war on terror we helped liberate citzens from Hussan and place a democratic goverment in but their are still iner turmoil among the citizens because of the democratic goverment. and sence we are supposed to be stopping terror we cannot seem to find at least the center of Al Quida and shut it down so in the larger view of things the "war on terror" is ineffective and for the majority of the time a failer

u failed we did not stop them all we did was gave them a slap on the wrist because the american people were not behind a war so we could not send in the amount of troops to end it quicky we did the same thing in the vietnam war the public didnt care so we lost
