Colonial Differences -- Week 3

Considering the extreme differences during the 17th Century between New England and the southern colonies, was the Civil War inevitable?

All wars are ineveitable. It is human nature to feel entitled to things, just as it is human nature to get angry and fight it out. Our species is irrational like that. The southern colonies took a lot of liberties that the New England area didn't agree with; religious tolerance, slavery. Which would easily make anyone angry.

I agree with Mandy. between the north and the south colonies it was almost like two sepreate cultures or contrys. if one goverment tried to make/inforce laws on the the two completelydiffrent groups of people then there would be controversy. If no one tried to oppease both sides eventually it will come to war. for example look at what happend to scottland and england when the king was oppressing them. (war)

I do believe this war was inevitable. The differences in the northern and southern colonies were many, and were very set on their way of living and no one elses. They both had their own beliefs and their way of life.

The civil war at one point could have been eveitable. But they were both set on living their way and if you weren't gonig to do the same they pushed you out of the way. So at that point the war was then ineveitable. Both wanted two different ways of living and neither liked what the other was doing.

(I DID IT THIS TIME> I DIDN'T FORGET)

The Northern and Southern colonies were very different from each other. The degrees of religion were too different for them to co-exist peacefully, one would try to convert the other. The government ideas were aristocratic and democratic and I'm sure there were some other forms competing in America. I also think that everything is inevitable.

I agree with Mandy completely. Honestly, you could definitely see the civil war coming a mile away. The North and the South had different ideas on how to live life and their main purpose for coming to the New World. Just to name a few differences: religion, slavery, aristocracy, and stucture of government. So, yeah it was bound to happen sooner or later.

It's *MAYNARD:)
I agree with Steph that the civil war was bound to happen. It was so obvious with all the differences between the two that it would come down to problems. The North wanted to have control over the South, and the South thought they were there own country so... the civil war began.

The Civil War was inevitable because the New England and Southern Colonies were vastly different, and being different scares people.

I also agree with Mandy. War never has to take place but sometimes it is inflicted anyways. The differences that the colony's had between them helped to rile up those who didn't agree with the other side. But in this case i think that had they tried to work through this they still wouldn't have suceeded in being sucessful. Because the views of both sides in many way are very different. Had the colonies agreed in more view points then perhaps this war could have been avoided.

I agree with many of the opinions already posted. I don't agree that ALL wars are inevitable, but I would agree that the civil war was going to happen no matter what. Anytime a group of people form something new, a fight of some sort has to occur. (This is the same idea as when a couple has been dating for a while then they are bound to at least argue.) In the case of the forming of America, the Civil War occurred. It was inevitable because many different people with varying ideas and backgrounds all tried to come together. Before they can compromise on a plan, they must first argue out their differences.

*I hope this makes sense to someone besides me.*

I don't know that all wars are ineveitable, but I do know that the Civil war was. When we first look back on the foundation of the first colonies, the north was mostly comprised of people searching for religious freedom, and the south for land and money. So they began with their own beliefs and ways of living. Just like Levi, I believe that the diferent religions and ideas such as: slavery, government, and religion, could not coexist together peacefully. So the civil war was inevitable in coming, just like siblings, a battle must rage before a comprimise can be settled.

I do agree with Mandy. Mostly all wars are inevitable. We all know that there were major differences throughout the northern and southern colonies. But when it was time for the civil war, we were fighting on different issues.

i think that war is an ineveitable part of human nature because when your different from something it scares you just like the New England and Southern Colonies were scared of each other so war was bound to happen

I do believe this war was ineveitable. The differences between the northern and southern colionies were major especially in religion. With all the differences you know the colonies are going to clash easily causing conflict and leading to a war.

I think that all wars are inevitable and I agree with everyone who said that. When there are two or more select people or groups of people who have different things in commen, they're bound to get aggrivated with eachother at some point in time. So the disagreements in culture between the New England and Southern sparked the war.

Yes, form the very beginnign there were extreeme differences between the two areas, and when that happens, conflicts are going to arise
